Project Overview

A2F Consulting supported the World Bank in analyzing gender disparities in mobility and employment within the railway sector across Latin America and the Caribbean, focusing on Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, and Colombia. The project aimed to identify barriers faced by women and develop actionable recommendations to improve both access to transport and employment opportunities in the sector.

Work Developed

• Conducted gender gap assessments on mobility and employment in railway systems across four countries
• Analyzed barriers affecting low-income women’s access to rail transport in Mexico and Argentina
• Evaluated employment challenges and opportunities for women in the freight rail sector in Brazil and Colombia
• Applied mixed-methods research, including surveys, focus groups, interviews, and data analysis (e.g., mobility and smartcard data)
• Developed policy recommendations to improve women’s mobility, recruitment, retention, and career advancement in the railway sector

The assignment was implemented over 6 months using a comprehensive mixed-methods approach tailored to each country context. The study combined qualitative and quantitative analysis to generate evidence-based recommendations, supporting more inclusive transport systems and expanding economic opportunities for women in the railway sector.‍
